Cool Science

February 3rd, 2012

Today we had the pleasure of having the Science Wizard, Bill Bosworth, with Science Alliance, entertain our students with some COOL Science. His demonstrations showed students that everything around us is made with Chemistry. In his demonstrations he stressed the value that learning chemistry can help us in our everyday lives and provide possible careers in an area that would be interesting and valuable to all. Students made slime, gak, rubber bouncy balls, learned how liquid nitrogen can cause a rubber ball to shatter into a million pieces. His message was that Science can be fun, interesting, and a great career choice. Look for photos coming soon.

Driver’s Education

January 24th, 2012

We have a polling question on the QISD facebook page to determine the interest in QHS providing Driver’s Education this Spring. If you have a student that will be 16 by May 1, and would like to see something like this materialize, please let us know. Call the High School, email Mr. Brawley, or answer the polling question on facebook.

Financial Aid Meeting

January 24th, 2012

If you missed the financial aid meeting tonight please contact Mr. Brawley or Mrs. Campsey to get that information. The representative from Vernon College did an excellent job informing parents about the types and steps needed to obtain aid to pursue higher education. It is our goal at Quanah High School that every student be prepared to obtain an education beyond high school. We know that in today’s world students are going to need education beyond High School to become successful. We want to offer our students every opportunity to achieve their dreams.

Project share

January 16th, 2012

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our delivery of instruction for students. We are blessed to have laptops for each student. So how can we effectively use this awesome tool? I have seen so many “fly-by-night” gadgets that claim to use technology (laptops). None seemed valid or applicable to all students in all disciplines. I wanted to find something that fit that bill; an application that will benefit all students in all classes and allow continued growth. I believe we have found such a tool, Project Share. This application has the potential to be used in every class from English to horticulture. It has online tutorials for the foundation courses and is expanding each day. It has the capability of allowing students to get class notes, assignments, worksheets, quizzes, and tests when they are home sick or absent due to school activity.
Colleges now operate every class with what they call “blackboard”. All assignments are given and submitted via this blackboard. We want to operate our high school in this fashion.
We are in the “infant” stages of this endeavor. But we will have every class and every student using this when school starts next year. This is a fantastic application. So parents ask your student about Project Share. This is the most effective use of our laptops I have found. It is beneficial to both teachers and students.

“Goals” DAY

January 16th, 2012

Parents,

We have sent home schedule options with your student to come and find out where your student is at this time. If you signed and designated your available time you should receive a confirmation letter from your student’s 3rd period teacher. If this did not make it home, you do have a conference time with your student’s 3rd period teacher. Remember we are starting these short conference times at 1:45 and going until 6:00 p.m. Please call the office or email that 3rd period teacher if you are not sure of your conference time.

Olivia Jalamo headed to Round Rock

November 11th, 2011

This morning the students at QHS provided a “send off” to Olivia Jalamo as she headed off to the State Cross Country Meet in Round Rock. Olivia, the District Champion, qualified for the State meet by placing 5th at the Regional meet last weekend in Lubbock. Olivia will compete on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. Olivia is an excellent example of a student athlete. She is exhibits the essence of true sportsmanship and competitiveness and represents our town and school with great pride. The student body cheered her on and wished her luck as she and her coach, Jan Forrest, walked down the hallway and headed out the doors on their way to a State Championship. We wish Olivia God’s Speed.

Have you seen it?

November 2nd, 2011

The AG building has a new look. Mrs. Sparkman’s Horticulture classes have redesigned the front scape of the building. Using timbers and native plants with antique farm equipment, they have learned the basics of landscape design and a little hard work. Utilizing Mrs. Sparkman’s talents, the students have produced a landscape that is a model for water conservation. I encourage you to drive by and look at what our kids have done. Great job!!!
