What Is Happening This Week April 23rd – 27th

This week has finally arrived.  It will be the time when your child can really shine by doing their very best on the STAAR Tests. We have worked very hard. Please help them by giving words of encouragement and making sure that they come to school feeling good about themselves.  If they do not like what is being served at breakfast have them eat at home. Also making sure they get a good night sleep is very important.

Tuesday 24th Math STAAR Test

Wednesday 25th Reading STAAR Test

The only subject they will be required to study is spelling.  It will be unit 32 changing y to i before adding es.

Friday April 27th will be the school wide AR Party. There will be different activities all day. We will need parents to help. If you can help with anything at anytime of the day please let me know.  You can also call the office.

NO SCHOOL on Monday April 30th.

 

What Is Happening This Week April 16th-20th

Friday was the end of the 5th 6 weeks. Report cards will go home on Wednesday April 18th.

Math and Reading: We will continue and finish our Mentoring Minds Workbooks this week. We completed our STAAAR Coach in reading a few weeks ago and will the complete the math this week. Everyone is really working hard with just one week left before the STAAR Test. I have been really pushing hard these last few weeks and will do the same this week. Please encourage your child do their best and do not give up. They have all worked so hard and I know we will see the great results when the scores come in.

MATH STAAR TEST Tuesday April 24th.

READING STAAR TEST Wednesday April 25th.

We will continue with Spelling and English this week.  Spelling will be Unit 31 add s and es to words to make them plural. Spelling test on Friday.   English will be editing and revising worksheets.

AR: 10 students reached or went over their 100% goal for the 5th 6 weeks. They were treated with a movie on Friday.  Encourage your child to reach their goal this 6th 6 weeks.   Their goals are not all the same and each goal is set with the students ability in mind. Every goal is attainable for that student.  As a school we reached our goal of 20,000 AR Points.

What Is Happening This Week March 26th – 30th

THIS WEEK: On TUESDAY, 27th and WEDNESDAY, 28th NO VISITORS  Will Be Allowed In Building. The 4th and 5th graders will be STAAR Testing. Thank-you for your cooperation.

Math: All this week we will be working in our STAAR Coach  and Mentoring Minds Workbooks.

Reading: Story Journey to the Moon another non-fiction story.  Skill: Synonyms and Antonyms. Students need to read story and study vocabulary nightly. Story & Vocabulary test on Friday.

English: For the next few weeks students will be working on editing and revising essays.

Spelling: Unit 28 Consonant Doubling; Add -ed, -ing Test on Friday.

AR: These students reached their 50% goal by March 21st and were treated to an extra 30 minute recess. Morgan Andrews, Talon Caldwell, Coley Hunter, Kaitlyn Fontenot, Sean Jamison, Aaron Kaufmann, Riley Maldonado, Brittany Meza, Marylee Meza, Will Mott, and Lane Shytles. Way To Go! Students reaching 100% of goal by April 13th will be rewarded with a movie that day. Hope everyone makes it.

The STAAR  Math and Reading Tests are less than a month away.  We will take Math on Tuesday April 24th and Reading Wednesday April 25th.  We are working exceptionally hard these next few weeks. If your child has math or reading homework that they need help with please take the time to help them.

Math: Monday-Wednesday Saxon Lessons 43-45
Thursday – Review for Test
Friday – Saxon Test

Science: Adaptions — The diverse environments of Earth explain why there are such diverse organisms. The structures of plants and animals are adapted to particular environments.

Reading: Story – The Moon Seems to Change is a non-fiction story.
We will be reading and discussing vocabulary words. Skills — Compare & Contrast and Diagrams. Story & Vocabulary Test on Friday.

English: Will be working on commas in series and quotation marks.

Spelling: Unit 26 — More words with double consonants and long e sound usually follows a double consonant and is spelled y.

We try to work on cursive handwriting as much as we can.

AR: (Reading From Coast to Coast) They all had a good time on Friday afternoon trying to break the record of most AR points in one day. We did help in breaking the record.

We took the math and reading benchmark tests last week. Most did OK on the math but we are really going to have to work harder on the reading. After spring break your child will have more homework in reading and math. We will be trying new things. Please try to encourage and work with your child with their school work. It will take both school and home to help a child to be successful.

AR: Your child will have extra time at home to read AR this week. There will be very little homework because of Benchmark Testing. They each have a goal this 6 weeks. If they have 50% of goal by March 21st they will receive a extra 30 minute recess. If they 100% of goal by April 13th they will be rewarded with a movie. This week would be a great time to work toward this goal.

What Is Hapenig This Week February 6th -10th

Reading: Students have started a new reading book filled with more non-fiction stories. The first story Sun tells about our solar system. The skill is drawing conclusions. Story and vocabulary test will be on Friday.

Math: The first of the week we be doing Saxon Lessons 36-38. Also we will be working hard in STAAR Coach and Motivation Math.

Spelling: Unit 22 words (ar) sound spelled with air, are, ear, and ere. Spelling test will be on Friday.

English: We start a new unit this week Unit 5 on mechanics.

Science: Have your child share with you what they are learning in science.
We are investigating force and motion.

AR: I have seen an increase in reading this 6 weeks. It is always not possible for us to take a test or go to library when they ask. We have to work these times around our daily class work. They can not all take test or go to library at same time.

What Is Happening This Week January 30th to February 3rd

Last week our class won ice cream for having the most AR points in 3rd grade. The students have been doing much better about reading their Ar books. Please keep encouraging them to read every night.

Math: Saxon Lessons 34 and 35 on measurement. They will have a test on Thursday.

Reading Story: Madam C.J. Walker: Self-Made Millionaire is a biography about an African American Woman that became financially successful by selling salon products in the early 1900′s. Story & vocabulary Test will be on Friday.

English: Will finish up Unit 4 on adjectives and adverbs on Wednesday. Will have Unit 4 test on Friday.

Spelling : Unit 21 review spelling patterns for (ur) sound spelled (ur, ear, ir, or). Test on Friday.

Science: We will finish C-Scope Forms of Energy and start Investigating Force and Motion. Friday: Science Fair 9:00 at high school.

What Is Happening This Week October 10th-14th

Last week was a great week. Book Fair all week and hopefully sold lots of books. The students attended a Ronald McDonald Anti-Bullying and Mobile Dairy program. Also Grandparents Day was enjoyable, and we concluded with Fabulous Friday. Hopefully I will have pictures to follow this week.

Math: We will be working on addition and subtraction with regrouping.

Reading Story: Teammates a biography about Jackie Robinson. Test on Friday. Study vocabulary and read story with your child. Mrs. Nelson has set up a way for your child to study vocabulary and definitions at home using the computer. They are on Quizlet — go to quizlet.com and type in DebbieKN in search box. Teammates are on the dashboard. There are several games that students can play.

Spelling: Unit 7 Spelling pattern Vowel-Consonant-e in our new spelling books. Test Friday

English: Plural Nouns

AR: Students are doing much better. Some do not have time to read at school. Please encourage them to read at home. Take the time to look at what they are reading or listen to them read.

What Is Happening This Week September 19th — 23rd

EARLY RELEASE DAYS: Wednesday September 21st at 2:00 and Friday September 23 At 2:45.

September Birthdays: Aaron Kaufmann 5th, Talon Caldwell 11th, Will Mott 12th, Morgan Andrews 30th.

It is hard to believe that we are in the 5th week of school. Everything has gotten off to a smooth start.
My conference time is from 9:45 to 10:30. If you ever need a conference please call or I can meet after school.

AR: It is very important that you encourage your child to read his AR book at home. There is not a lot of time during the school day for some to read AR. Remember their AR average for the 6 weeks will be averaged in as a test grade. I know we have only had AR books for about 2 weeks but some students have not taken a test.

Math: In Saxon Math and CSCOPE Math this week we will be working on place value. If your child needs help with home work please feel free to help them.

Science: We are completing Properties of Matter and will be starting States of Matter.

Reading: Story–Beauty and the Beast story and vocabulary test will be on Friday. Students need to study vocabulary every night and read story orally on Wednesdays. Some students may need to read it more than 1 time at home.

Spelling: Unit 5 Spelling the Long o Sound: Test on Friday

English: Unit 2 — This week we will be working on common and proper nouns and writing with nouns.
