Baseball Playoffs
Our Fighting Indian baseball team will play Hamlin in a best-of-three series beginning Tuesday May 1st. The first game will be played at Hermleigh High School at 7pm. They have outstanding facilities and our kids will really enjoy playing on this field. Saturday May 5th, we will resume the series at Childress High School at 11am. If a third game is needed, it will directly follow the second game in Childress. We hope that you will come out and cheer them on to victory. PUHA DO WORK!!!
Time Change for Baseball
We are moving the baseball game to 4pm today in an attempt to avoid the weather. We are working on time changes for the softball game as well. I will keep you posted.
What a great spring!!!
Wow, this has been a crazy spring. I have been so busy. I love being busy. Especially when it is watching our athletes do so well. We just got back from Abernathy last night with our Area Tracksters. We pulled in at midnight with medals around our neck. Cody is advancing to Regionals in the 800 and the mile. As our only Senior, I catch myself pulling for him a tad bit more. I want to see him go out on a good note. Olivia is also advancing in the 800 and the Mile. Austin is going in the 200. It won’t be easy in Levelland. It never is. I read a quote yesterday in a book I am ready that say’s “success is uncommon and not to be enjoyed by the common man. You have a greater chance of being uncommon by efforts than by natural gifts.” Cody, Olivia, and Austin are uncommon. They are where they are because of how hard they work. Cody and Olivia run so many extra miles when everyone else goes home. Austin is in the weight room every time you turn around. They model what it takes to be successful. They are not the only athletes who do this in our program, but I feel like gloating over them this morning. The competition is a lot tougher at the regional meet. Whether they go to State or not, we are all going to be proud of them for there efforts. All we can ask of a kid is there best effort. It doesn’t take talent to give effort.
Our baseball team is doing great this spring. Coach Smith is doing a great job. They are sitting at 5-1 in district. We play Wellington here on Friday. I hope that everyone comes out and cheers them on. I know you will. It is so fun to watch them play. I am pumped to see the large crowds we are getting at our home games. The field is starting to look great. I know the kids are proud of that new field. It’s about the kids. Quanah kids deserve to have the best. They deserve to hold there heads high. I will argue with you that a small part of there success is where they get to practice everyday. When you feel “Big Time” you start to become “Big Time.” That is human nature. This is a gutsy group of kids, if you were at the Electra game you saw that. I love watching them grow and mature. I get excited when you see them finally start to believe in themselves, their abilities, and their teammates. I expect big things from this group of kids.
How about our Golf Team! The boys defended their District Title, and the girls are advancing to Regionals as a team. The boys will get a chance to defend their Regional Title. I know that those kids have put in long hours on the golf course. It kind of hurts my ego that most of the boys on the team can beat me in golf. We will be doing very well when they can all beat Coach Boyd! They will be competing on April 16th and 17th in Lubbock. The girl’s will be playing at Reece Golf Center, and the boy’s will play at Lake Ridge Country Club.
I want to thank all of you again for your support. Our kids deserve the best we have to offer. Together we can make this time in their lives special. PUHA DO WORK!!!
We need help
We have our Junior High and High School track meets this week. I have tried several times to gather up those of you who can help work. I only have a couple of people who have responded. We can’t run these meets off without help from our staff, teaching staff, and parents. We need several timers and pickers for both meets. I hope that you will help us out. Without your help, I will be impossible for us the run these meets off. It would be very embarrassing to have to call off the meets because we don’t have enough community support. If you can help, call me at 904-867-2164 or email me at jason.sims@qisd.net. Thank you for your support!
Seymour Track Meet Cancelled
The HS track meet in Seymour today has been cancelled due to weather. The next meet will be here in Quanah. If you are able to help, please let me know if you haven’t already. I still need some timers and pickers. Thank you.
Today’s Going on’s
Today at 1pm, Cody Bodine will be signing his letter of intent to Eastern New Mexico University to run Cross Country and Track for the Greyhounds. The signing will be in the High School cafeteria. We hope that you can come and join the family to honor Cody for his awesome accomplishment. Cake will be served for him and his class-mates.
Tonight is Senior night for our basketball teams. Makila Silvey, Gary Gorley, and Jordan Morris will be honors before the Girls game. Please make plans to attend as we honor these seniors before their last home game as Quanah Indians!!
There will be a bake sale in the lobby of the gym tonight for Project Celebration. Buy plenty of goodies in support of our Drug and Alcohol free Graduation Party. This is completely funded by parents for our students. Lets try to help them sell out tonight!
If you have any question, feel free to call me. 940-867-2164
Have a great day! PUHA!
Basketball Changes tomorrow
There will be no girls JV game tomorrow. Wheeler doesn’t have a JV. We will start the JV Boys game at 5pm. It is Senior Night, so make plans to be there. Cody Bodine will be signing his letter of intent at the games as well. PUHA!!!!
Athlete Honored
Brandon Heard has been selected as Honorable Mention All State Linebacker by the Associated Press. We are proud of him and the recognition he has received. We are looking forward to him returning for the 2012 season and that this might inspire other athletes in our program to strive for their own honors. Brandon finished the season as our leading tackler with 79. He also led the team in sacks and fumble recoveries with 8 and 4 respectively. These accomplishments could not have been achieved without the hard work of all his teammates, and I know that they are proud of him as well. PUHA, Do Work!!!
Game Changes for High School Basketball
We have had several changes in the schedule this week for High School Basketball. Tuesday, the Girls game is being moved TO Munday. The JV Girls will tip off at 5pm. The Varsity Girls will follow that game at 6:30pm. We are accommodating Munday since their football team is playing on Thursday. This caused them to move their semester test forward to Tuesday and Wednesday. Munday will come to Quanah later in the schedule.
Our HS Boys will be playing Windthorst here on Tuesday. The JV will tip off at 5pm, followed by the Varsity at 6:30.
On Friday, we have games here versus Crowell. Those games have been moved forward. The JV girls will tip off at 2pm. JV Boys will start around 3:15. Varsity Girls will begin at 5pm. The Varsity Boys will tip off at 6:30
We are adjusting the game times based on our early release. We know that many of you are working and we felt that this would better allow us to monitor the activities of our student athletes during the day. We do not want to cut the students loose after 1:30 and not play until 4pm.
Thank you for your support. Please help us spread the word about these changes. Thank you.
