UIL C/SR Contest – March 1st – Vernon

February 23rd, 2012 by · No Comments · HS Band

It’s that time once again, ladies and gentlemen, when we travel the long road to Vernon for the Region UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest to be held at Wilbarger Auditorium in Vernon.  We will leave school at 9:00 a.m. that morning so that we can have time to listen to some of the earlier groups.  We will eat lunch in Vernon (location to be determined, possibly right there like last year.)  We will start getting ready at 1:00 then we go into the warm-up room at 1:30 in the afternoon.  We take the stage at 2:00 and Sight-Reading follows at 2:30.  We will be done by 3:00.

As soon as I can get our score sheets and recordings, we will load the bus (approx. 3:30) and return home.  We should arrive in Quanah at about 4:00.

If you have any questions, come see me (or text/call.) As I get more information I will try to get it posted quickly.

UIL Music – Listening

January 31st, 2012 by · No Comments · HS Band

Okay, all HS Band members.  Here are the links for the songs we are thinking about for UIL contest in a month.  You need to listen to these closely, practice with them and we will decide in the next couple of days which ones we will be using.

Uskudar

 Majestica

Cahokia

Courtlandt County Festival is NOT available at this time.

 Lexington March

(other marches as we are ready for them and IF they can be found.)

Practice makes perfect and perfect practice makes mistakes impossible to play.
It’s the only sure way to achieve a superior rating.
Do Work!!!

Quanah Bands is now on FACEBOOK!!!!!

August 2nd, 2011 by · 2 Comments · 5th Grade Beginner Band, 6th Grade Band, HS Band

Yes, the Quanah Bands now has a Facebook page.  If you haven’t been added yet (sorry you were missed) then look us up and “friend” your band program.  Information will be posted there as well as here on the blog so that we can try keeping everyone “in the know” about upcoming events and such.

BTW, Summer Band HAS started and many people are NOT showing up.  These people are ruining things for those that are showing up and wanting to have a successful band in Quanah.  So, get yourselves to rehearsals and let’s make this a great year.

Let the new year…Begin!!!!

July 7th, 2011 by · 2 Comments · HS Band

The new school year is just around the corner and I hope that everyone is getting as excited about it as I am.  To start things off, we’ll need to get some dates set in our heads and on our calendars very quickly, so I’ll post those separately as I get them all sorted out.  But first, I’d like to make a couple of public announcements here just to help everyone get a good idea of what is in store as we get things kicked off.

Drum Majors and Flag Captain.

Drum Major – Jordan Morris.  Asst. Drum Major (will take the reins next year) – Johnathan Butler.  Flag Captain – Catherine Ybarra

Flag Corps – It appears that we will have 6 ladies adding to the show this year by marching with Flags.  I am VERY excited about this and can hardly wait.

Second – Marching Contest Show Music.

Back in May the HS band was pretty well settled on the music we would be doing for contest this year.  And I was in agreement.  BUT!!!  I found some music that appears to be slightly easier to learn, will allow us to concentrate on the marching a little more AND that I believe will make everyone’s time even more enjoyable.  I’m looking at a complete show featuring the music of Green Day from their 21st Century Breakdown album.  Songs would include; 21st Century Breakdown, 21 Guns and Know Your Enemy.  This will allow us to work on the music we thought was previously going to be done and possibly do a 2nd complete show for our fans after contest and that we could possibly recycle for the following year.

Third – Uniforms.

We are all very aware at this time that the weather this summer has been hotter than normal and that we are experiencing a heatwave not felt in many years.  I am taking this into consideration not only for our August rehearsals but also in regards to our uniforms.  I’m considering shirts similar to this past year until the weather lets up and then we will switch into the uniforms after a few short weeks when the weather gives us a bit of a break.  But never fear, we will be wearing proper uniforms before, during and after contest.

Okay, that’s enough for now.  Keep your eyes open for the next couple of blogs because they will contain important dates and times so that we can have a very successful year together.
