Monday: 05/14/2012
Classwork: View “Squibs” video to give an overview/review of organisms and ecosystems in the environment.
Homework: Study Ontrack Project share tutorial for Biology titled: Homeostasis-Succession
Study new Lesson titled “Ecology Overview” under Lessons for Biology on Project Share.
Study “EOC Blitz questions” and “Comprehensive Standardized Test Practice Questions” under lessons for Biology.

Tuesday: 05/15/2012 and Wednesday: 05/16/2012
In Class: EOC blitz questions using released biology end of course exams from other states.
Homework: The practice test questions available and work on areas you think need the most work to prepare for the End of Course exam for biology this Thursday.

Thursday: 05/17/2012
Biology End of course exam for Freshman.
All other Biology students should work through the Lesson for biology on Project Share titled: Body Systems-The Nervous System.

Friday: 05/18/2012
Field trip for biology students to the 3 Rivers Astronomy Campus at Comanche Creek west of Crowell. Wear sturdy sneakers or boots for walking.
Students not going on the field trip should work through the Body System lessons for Biology on project share.

Work through and study Project Share tutorial for Biology titled: Taxonomy Standards.

Wednesday: 05/02/2012
Lecture/Discussion covering objectives of section 17.1
Objectives: Evaluate the history, purpose, and methods of taxonomy. Explain the meaning of a scientific name. Describe the organization of taxa in a biological classification system.
Hand out study guide for chapter 17 for students to work on in preparation for test over classification and the 6 kingdoms on May 7th.
Homework: Read section 17.2. pages 450 to 465. Work through and study Project Share tutorial for Biology titled: Taxonomy – Hierarchy.

Thursday: 05/03/2012
Lecture/Discussion covering objectives of section 17.2
Describe how evolutionary relationships are determined. Explain how cladistics reveals phylogenetic relationships. Compare the sex kingdoms of organisms.

Lab activity: Practice using dichotomous keys to identify organisms.

Egg Hunt lab activity: Objectives: Students will observe the effects of color on the survivability of an organisms. Students will observe the effects of fecundancy on the survival of species.
Homework: Work through project share biology tutorial titled: Evolution Natural Selection – Genetic Diversity

Wednesday: 04/18/2012
Lecture/Discussion covering objectives of section 15.2.
Objectives: Summarize the effects of the different types of natural selection on gene pools. Relate changes in genetic equilibrium to mechanisms of speciation. Explain the role of natural selection in convergent and divergent evolution.

Biology Week of April 9th

Monday: 04/02/2012-
Students will finish lab started last Thursday modeling the half life of a radioactive isotope by graphing the data and answering the Analyze and conclude questions on page 387.
Homework: Finish lab questions if not finished during class period. Use OnTrack tutorials for Biology to study any material not covered in class yet and review material that has been covered in class in preparation for TAKS and E.O.C. tests. 6 weeks benchmark will be this Thursday and will be comprehensive.

Tuesday: 04/10/2012-Wednesday: 04/11/2012
TAKS/E.O.C. review over major biology concepts/topics in relation to STARRS and TEKS objectives 1, 2, and 3.

Discuss connection between cyanobacteria, the build up of oxygen in Earths early atmosphere and the endosymbiosis theory.
Show film over how fossils are collected and studied to figure out clues to history of life.
Homework: Read/re-read chapter 14. Be sure to study pictures and captions. Focus on historical experiments in section 14.2.

Students will continue to use OnTrack project share tutorials and lesson resources to prepare for test on Viruses.
Homework: study for test this Wednesday using available resources. Be sure to use additional resources found under Lessons for Biology titles: Viruses and also Viruses 2.

Wednesday 03/28/2012
Students will take test on Viruses.
Assignment/homework: Read section 14.1, pages 369 through 379. Add vocabulary to notes.

Thursday: 03/29/2012
Objectives: Identify the different types of fossils and how they are formed. Summarize the major events of the geologic time scale.
Assignment: Students will complete and turn in concept map for section 14.1 on the formation of fossils and the Reinforcement and study guide for section 14.1. Due by the end of class for students without extended time modifications.
Homework: Study notes handout over the geologic time scale.

Friday: 03/30/2012
Students will do minilab 14.1 to investigate microscopic fossils found in diatomaceous earth.
Homework: Read section 14.2 pages 380 through 388 and add vocabulary to notes.
